The 40 GBit/s 4:1 multiplexer SHF 4005 A uses three 2:1 multiplexers to generate a 40 GBit/s data signal from four 10 GBit/s signals, which are multiplexed to two 20 GBit/s signals. A 20 GHz clock input signal drives the output multiplexer while the two input multiplexers are driven by a 10 GHz clock signal generated by a 20 GHz divide by two circuit.

Two push-button / IEC - bus controlled delay lines allow to tune the phase shift of the input data signal for optimum performance of the output signal eye diagram. The actual delay is shown on a liquid crystal display having a resolution of 1 ps. The output signals are fed to two SHF 104 P line drivers, which are tuned for optimum pulse performance at the end of the two 0.5 m low loss high precision cable assemblies, which are supplied with the instrument.

The very low risetime of the multiplexer in connection with the pulse shaping 40 GHz amplifiers generates excellent 40 GBit/s eye pattern diagrams and allows an easy testing of ultra high speed components and their assembly into complex communication systems.

This source finds applications as a &7quot;keep alive" as well as a test source for field and factory applications. The outputs can be selected for M13 or C-bit Parity framing formats and the data patterns can be selected to be PRBS (2e15/2e20/2e23 internal jumper selectable), IDLE or BLUE (AIS). Error insert on a selected output is a valuable aid in routing verification and testing. The source C-Bit identity code can be loaded through the RS-232C interface and stored in internal non-volatile RAM. The versatility of selected modes of operation with 9 outputs in a 1.75" vertical rack space make the TSI-4503 a valuable addition to the DS-3 cross connect bay and DS-3 switch installations.

This distribution unit finds applications in the central office and factory wherever large numbers of STS-1 or DS-3 signals are required. The TSI-4505 inputs a STSX-1 or DSX-3 signal, normalizes it with an AGC circuit and then outputs it through separate amplifiers to rear panel output connectors. Front panel power on indicator and No Input provide indication of proper operation. The circuitry fits in a 1.75" vertical rack space and is powered by -48Vdc.
